UN to Haiti cholera outbreak probe

UNITED NATIONS-U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon announced that killed more than 2,400 people to investigate setting up an international scientific panel, the source of the deadly cholera epidemic in Haiti.

The UN Chief told a press conference was a provision making the creation of the independent Panel, since there are several different theories about the origin of the outbreak.

There has been speculation in Haiti the outbreak started at a base for UN peacekeepers from Nepal not far from where hundreds of people began falling ill. Rejected any idea that the basis was involved, UN officials say its hygiene was airtight.

"Fair questions remain and legitimate concerns that demand can provide the best answer to science," Mr said ban. "We want the best efforts below on this and answers, the people of Haiti to earn."

He said that was why he was in agreement with Dr Margaret Chan, Director of the World Health Organization until set Panel.

Mr. ban said epidemiologist and microbiologists Panel and he hopes to announce their members "as soon as possible."

"The Panel will be completely independent and have full access to all United Nations premises and staff," he said.

The cholera outbreak, which includes expert estimates more than 600,000 people in the impoverished Caribbean nation could disrupt, confirmed the first cases of disease in Haiti since WHO began records in the mid 20th century.

The Secretary-General stressed that the UN's will continue to save first priority life.
