His parents, Kate and Simon son described him as "wonderful" and thanked emergency crews for their efforts.
An autopsy will be conducted to try to establish the cause of death.
A statement by Mr. and Mrs. Gibbon and her other son Jake, 19, said: "All Duncan's family want our thanks to all the services, friends and family."
"You have to try tirelessly over the last three tough days in difficult weather conditions, our beautiful young search worked."

Det INSP Gary Stephenson of Northumbria police thanked all parties involved in the search for Mr. Gibbon.

"Unfortunately, this incident has led to the loss of life and we are still the circumstances to connect to investigate a cause of death."
