Suspect devices are on Rome Metro

Rome - a suspicious package full of wires and powder found in a u-Bahn car in Rome on Tuesday asked a fright terror, but the mayor who said city it could not have exploded.

It was found to be around 10 pm local time on a train at Rebibbia station on the outskirts of the capital. The train was at the end of the line and blank if the package is found, said Ataç, which runs the Rome-u-Bahn.

Bomb disposal experts reviewed the powder and closed, "the device could not have exploded," Rome Mayor Gianni Alemanno was quoted as saying by the news agency ANSA. It was not clear what kind of powder was involved and ATAC said bomb disposal experts analyze.

ATAC said in a statement that the train in an area outside of the platform was used, for the maneuver if the device aboard was found. Spokesperson Diana Formaggio said the package contained powder and wires. She said the station was never closed and service was not interrupted.

There has been growing concern in Europe about holiday season attacks after a suicide bombing in Sweden and security services fears of an attack on a European city to model of the deadly shooting spree in Mumbai, India.

Rome was the site of violent anti-Government protests in recent weeks while the demonstrators; set off flares, Fireworks and other devices another such protest is planned for Wednesday.
