Japan's premier scores a win

Tokyo - Japanese Government heavyweight Ichiro Ozawa pressure Tuesday and agreed pension application to testify before the Parliament on its participation in a funding scandal have a peace offer after weeks of escalating tensions within the party, which withdrew from the support of the Government.

The move gives embattled Prime Minister Naoto Kan some much-needed space to the breathing in the near future but not remove that ensure that Mr. Ozawa should lead his Government in the new year.

JPOLReuters political power broker Ichiro Ozawa, Center, told a press conference in Tokyo on Tuesday, he had agreed to a donations affair attest.

The 68-year-old political leader has to testify before a parliamentary Ethics Committee about his role in a case with the alleged misallocation campaign funds defied the requests from the Democratic Party of Japan for weeks. Mr. Ozawa denied any wrongdoing in a scandal that has led to the arrests of two of his political aides.

"I had been waiting for that there is no rational reason for me to participate in the Ethics Panel," Mr. Ozawa said at a press conference in Tokyo. "But if my appearance paves the way for smoother discussions, I am willing to participate."

An occurs before the Ethics Panel is however unlikely that more than a peace offer of Mr. Ozawa and the certificate doesn't change the fact is he be prosecuted on the basis of in January about the funding scandal. And with Cabinet Secretary Yoshito Sengoku Monday suggests that each DPJ legislator accused should resign, the pressure on the scandal tainted former leader should continue.

The stalemate has created loyal distancing from the powerful but scandal tainted former head a wide gap between legislators to Mr. Ozawa and DPJ executives who hope to renew the party image. At a meeting Monday Party decided executives, DPJ would vote legislators on the Ethics Panel to official Mr. Ozawa's appearance request.

Officials, including Mr. Kan for Mr. Ozawa voluntarily appear pressed had but after weeks Patt Mr Kan said Monday that Mr. Ozawa should consider resignation if he continues to ignore the party line.

"It's hard to believe that it took so long for Ozawa, his decision to announce," said Jun Iio, political scientist at the national Graduate Institute for policy studies. If Mr. Ozawa cooperative, Mr Iio said would have failed the DPJ his testimony as a bargaining chip in decisive budget talks with opposition parties have used.

But instead, Mr kan's failure to maintain its approval reviews led to a reduction in the Government. Support for Mr. of kan's Cabinet has fallen, 26%, according to a survey in the Nikkei business daily on Monday, with 61% of respondents who say, that the men kan and Ozawa have been blamed for a string of recent losses in local elections.

The intraparty squabbling has helped to feed a broader perception that Mr. Kan is a weak leader, an issue that was raised by critics as well as in the last standoffs with China and Russia.

During Mr. Ozawa's concession Tuesday Mr Kan a small victory there, it is unlikely that the damage by the public nature of the debate on the matter reverse advanced. And there are no signs that will show the same flexibility Ozawa camp when he is accused as generally expected.

Since June after the sudden resignation of his predecessor, Yukio Hatoyama, Prime Minister is appointed Mr Kan has legitimacy for his party to win, which was in power, as Mr. Ozawa a landslide election victory in August 2009 masterminded fought.

Mr. Kan has he the cabinet can next month in the effort to support his Government shuffle boost proposed.
