Christmas day swimming water off - is frozen(UKPA) - 1 hour ago

An annual open-air Christmas swimming race was canceled after water frozen left the cold weather.

Members of the serpentine swimming club arrived at London's Hyde Park, the 100 M final move to find because of ice.

But to some 40 people jumping into an area of the lake where the ice had until broken were to stop.

Some wore Santa hats during other hot tea, drank when trying to cope with the bitter cold in the water.

Club Secretary Brian Thomas said: "we just went for a quick dip and a calf in the ice." It was but invigorating cool.

"I have in, a bit splashed and got out again." "We are not stupid so we not remain for ages."

The race was the first time in 1864 and received the Peter Pan Cup since 1904 when it was introduced by author Sir James Barrie.

Mr. Thomas said it was the first time the serpentine on Christmas morning about since 1981 had been iced.

"It was disappointing because it obviously is a major event." "Every Saturday morning have we race but this is everyone, will to win", Mr. Thomas said.

Members of England's oldest swimming club defied the cool sea to attend their annual Christmas dip in the channel where the temperature was a refreshing 3.3 (c).
