Brazil pushes decision on jet fighter deal

SAO PAULO (Dow Jones) - Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva is the choice of a multi billion dollar jet fighter - contract Dilma Rousseff to his successor, leave, when take President Jan. 1.

Brazil is looking to 36 jets as part of modernization of its armed forces to buy a contract that is believed to a value between 4 billion US $ and $10 billion. The deal was several times moved and it looks now being finalized, is not Mr Silva is while in force.

Mr Silva manufactured by the French Dassault Aviation SA has expressed a preference for the purchase of the Rafale aircraft, one of the three options is considered. The others are from Boeing Co.'s F/A-18 Super Hornet and NG fighters of the Swedish Saab Gripen.

Boeing and SAAB not immediately responded to a request for comment. Dassault officials could be reached for comment.

Documents published last week by WikiLeaks, USA, end 2009 mentioned diplomats that the close relationship between the leadership of Brazil and the Rafale France gave an advantage over its competitors.

Mr da Silva and French President Nicolas Sarkozy announced last year that Brazil negotiated to buy the Rafale, but the Brazilian Government soon retreat and said the contest was still open.
