David Cameron was today by labour Commissioners to leave plans for selected police protect pushed means for officers on the streets.

Prime minister's questions questions Harriet Harman, the Deputy labour leaders why £ 100 m on the new Commissioners issued while police were told to make cuts of 20%.

Cameron insisted that cuts 'Red tape' would help officers time freely and that elected accountability would improve Commissioners.

The exchanges follow Greater Manchester Police Chief Constable Peter Fahy's announcement this week that 750 civilian employees and 309 officers would go 2012 with other consequences.

Harman, labour leader's son, standing for Ed Miliband after the birth of the asked Cameron, "Its 20% real terms in the police budget cut it will say the House as a result of as many less cops".

Cameron said: "there are... try to individual police forces and ensure that you maximize the resources on the front."

"What we in the expenditure review said it is possible that is to keep high visibility and activity of the police on our streets."

"This is the challenge for any police force in our country, and I think if you look you over police forces and see how many officers there are in the HR and IT and in the back I think Office functions, we can succeed."

Harman said HM Inspectorate of Constabulary had warned that over 12% cuts would lead to reductions in front-line policing.

Cameron said Alan Johnson, labour's former Interior Minister and current Shadow Chancellor, but was not able to guarantee that police would not fall numbers.

He called Harman to engage in a "proper debate about how we try to ensure that we maximize resources at the front, that is, what we want to do police force that is involved what should be the opposition, instead of this cheap game".

Increasing noise levels in the Commons, said Harman Tory MPs components "amazed you cheering 20% cuts in the police budget will be".

Said Fahy's report set out how "frontline police have cut are".

Asked Cameron: "what you say the people in greater Manchester do that numbers be deeply concerned over the cut in police?"

The PM said: "The Chief Constable of Greater Manchester has said that his plans which set maximum resources on policing frontline are."

"I'm not surprised, he is able to say that, because here are the figures for employment in the back office functions: human resources, 187 people for it."Vehicle maintenance fleet: 106 people; finance:, 106."

When jeered Cameron said Labour members: "IT - think IT in greater Manchester police involved many people there are 225."

"Is this the debate we should as we get to have resources from the back office at the front?"

The "chaos" of inherited work meant only 11% of the officers were on the streets at all times, said Cameron.

But Harman said Fahy's report was clear that frontline officers should go.

Asked Cameron: "can you explain, the Association of police authorities say why you're spending, what is £ 100 m create Commissioners at the same time as cutting new selected police police numbers?"

Cameron said Commissioners would replace police and added that the cuts were made, "because we inherited the biggest budget deficit in the G20".

Cameron said scrapping of officers completed form "stop" "450,000 hours of police time would save".

"Stop and search reporting, we will which another 350,000 hours of police will save time."

"This is nonsense, the bureaucracy that form, that you [labour] we put in place are the police officers out to RID and want that job people."

Harman said the £ 100 m cost of Commissioners 'was the equivalent of hundreds of police officers".

She said: "will you drop your suggestion for police commissioners elected and the resources you need give the police to protect front line policing?"

Cameron told her: "just to answer: no I won't."

"And I'll tell you warum.Es is time that we had more accountable police forces in our country."

"I want it Police Commissioners, so that when you do a good job, the police account call and you fight against crime in the way that local people want to get re-elected and when you do a bad job, thrown you get."

"Democracy is a great thing we think all hier. Was is a bit with democracy in and police?"

Harman told him: what local people "want is to see your local police on your local roads."
